SUMMARY:Mind-Body Music: Mitigate Stress with Music at the Cahoon Museum
DESCRIPTION:Explore music as a vehicle for inspiring joy through the practice of wellness. Learn how to combat stress by eliciting the relaxation response with your favorite music and incorporate mind-body techniques derived from mindfulness\, meditation\, and yoga practices in your daily life. Students will learn to play the kalimba and receive an instrument to use at home.  \nA Cape Cod native\, Nick Suchecki holds a Bachelor of Music from Berklee College of Music and a Master of Music from New England Conservatory.  Additionally\, Nick has earned a Mind-Body Medicine education certification from Massachusetts General Hospital.  Currently\, Nick is a PhD candidate at Lesley University\, where his research focuses on the intersection of music\, mindfulness\, trauma\, and ecopsychology.  \nNick’s teaching philosophy is rooted in empowering each student’s sense of wellness\, belonging\, and autonomy\, while considering how the mind and body can learn most efficiently.  In addition to teaching at the Cape Symphony\, Nick is also an Adjunct Professor of Expressive Therapies at Lesley University.  \nAs an active performer\, Nick has performed across New England with groups such as Martha Reeves and the Vandellas\, Ronnie Spector\, Funktapuss\, Steve Morgan & the Kingfish\, the Cape Cod Sax Quartet\, and of course\, the Cape Symphony! \nCost $175/$150 members – a $25 discount is available for those who already own a Kalimba. \nREGISTER

Learn more about his process and the art of illustration on view in the exhibition. \nIncluded with general admission. \nFred Lynch is an American illustrator and educator from Cumberland\, Rhode Island. Lynch is best known for his editorial and book illustrations for The Atlantic\, Penguin\, and Random House as well as in situ paintings of the Boston area and Italy. He is also known for journalistic illustration\, urban sketching\, teaching\, and lecturing internationally about on-site art making. Lynch was a featured artist on a Boston episode of the Travel Channel’s television series Bizarre Foods with Andrew Zimmern\, as an expert on the route of Paul Revere’s Midnight Ride. He currently works as a professor of Illustration at the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD). \nREGISTER

DESCRIPTION:Learn Gelli printing\, a monoprinting process that does not require a press\, and explore textures and layers by combining materials to make a finished collage. A wide range of tools and materials will be supplied as part of the workshop. Instructor Christine Martell has been teaching a wide range of techniques for more than 30 years. Of all media\, Gelli printing is her favorite topic to teach because anyone can be successful with it at any level of artistic ability. She holds a BFA from Rhode Island School of Design and MS in Education from Portland State University.  \n$55 per person/$45 museum members  \nREGISTER

DESCRIPTION:Celebrate the spring by decorating a wooden plaque with a beautiful floral design.  Learn textured crackle technique as well as drybrush\, blending\, and line work skills in this workshop led by local decorative painter Mary Svenson.  Mary was a member of the Society of Decorative Painters and has been teaching\, painting and studying traditional folk art for 30 years.  This workshop is open to all levels.  Students will need to have their own brushes which may be purchased from the instructor; all other materials will be provided. \n$55 per person/$45  museum members \nREGISTER
