Daguerreotypes were produced for only twenty years before the process was replaced with ambrotypes\, tintypes\, and collodion negatives. DESCRIPTION:Upstate New York photographer Craig Murphy brings his traveling tintype studio to the Cahoon Museum for a lecture and a live demonstration of this historic photographic process. Murphy will discuss the early history of photography\, how this seemingly magical process spurred the imagination of artists and engineers\, and share his first-hand knowledge learned from using historical methods to capture images. He will do a live demonstration of how a tintype was created from exposure to development exactly as it would have happened in the 1860s. \nMurphy specializes in 19th century photographic processes including tintypes\, ambrotypes\, and the wet plate collodion process. DESCRIPTION:Soo Sunny Park creates captivating sculptural art installations that have become renown in the fields of art and design. For artworks such as Boundary Conditions\, she creates a large metal armature using cut and welded chain link fence and weaves iridescent Plexiglas into this metal grid to capture the ephemeral qualities of light; the result is a powerful immersive art experience. Park explains her artistic process\, from idea to construction and installation\, in an illustrated presentation using impressive examples of her installation work. \nPark shares the journey of her career in art from her undergraduate studies at Columbus College of Art and Design\, where she planned to pursue product design\, to examples of her sculptures and art installations that have been featured at the North Carolina Museum of Art\, the Currier Museum\, DeCordova Sculpture Park and Museum and other national and international venues.
