SUMMARY:Gallery Talk with Valerie Hegarty
DESCRIPTION:Contemporary Brooklyn artist\, Valerie Hegarty presents an illustrated talk on her body of work of altered art history paintings and sculptures followed by a tour of her pieces on view in the Secrets of the Sea exhibition and a wine and cheese reception. \nHegarty received a BA from Middlebury College\, a BFA from the Academy of Art College\, an MA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She has had several solo exhibitions in galleries and museums and has participated in numerous group exhibitions including Nature’s Nation: American Art and The Environment currently on view at Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art. Hegarty’s engagement with American history was featured in Alternative Histories at the Brooklyn Museum in 2013\, where she created site-specific interventions in the museum’s period rooms. \nHer work is in the permanent collections of the Brooklyn Museum\, the New Britain Museum of American Art\, the Wadsworth Atheneum\, and the Cahoon Museum of American Art. SUMMARY:Free Fun Friday: The Big Red House with the Blue Tree
DESCRIPTION:Free Fun Fridays comes to the Cahoon! Stop by the Museum for a fun day of activities and art. To kick off the day\, from from 10:00am – noon\, Face Painting with Becky\, 11:00am – 12:30pm\, steel drum instructor Amy Hughes and her students will play. At 12:00pm\, Puppet Man will appear for an hour and from 1:15 to 2:15 Bubble Man will delight us with his giant\, floating\, magical orbs under the Blue Trees in the Museum’s yard. \nThe Museum will be open for free all day from 10:00am – 4:00pm and our current exhibitions\, Exquisite Shells: The Art of Sailors Valentines\, Valerie Hegarty: Secrets of the Sea\, Selections from the Permanent Collection\, and The Blue Trees will be on view. Explore the Family Room and learn about why the trees are blue and take a minute to cool off. \nFree Fun Fridays are sponsored by the Highland Street Foundation and offer visitors no-cost admission to 100 of the most treasured cultural institutions in Massachusetts. DESCRIPTION:Everyone is invited to an open house and end of the summer celebration of arts and culture on Cotuit’s stretch of Route 28!  This block party marks the first ever collaboration between the Chapman Art Gallery\, Cahoon Museum of American Art\, Cotuit Center for the Arts\, Isaiah Thomas Bookstore\, Turtleback Limited\, and Villaggio Ristorante – all located along Route 28. Each venue will be open and free to the public. Enjoy visual art\, food\, drink\, tours\, music\, literature and bring your friends\, family and neighbors.
