The artists will discuss how they employ basketry processes in imaginative and often unexpected ways using both conventional and innovative materials.  Exhibiting artists of Interwoven: Contemporary Basketry are Pamela Becker\, Jeanne Flanagan\, Lissa Hunter\, Jeannet Leendertse\, Kari Lonning\, Lynne Francis-Lunn\, Arlene McGonagle\, Nathalie Miebach\, Sui Park\, Lois Russell\, and Elizabeth Whyte Schulze. DESCRIPTION:Join Kelly Barber\, Director of Land Stewardship\, Barnstable Land Trust\, Dr. Tara Rajaniemi\, Professor of Biology at Umass Dartmouth \, and Ramona Peters\, Founder\, Native Land Conservancy in conversation with the artist of The Greenhouse\, Ethan Murrow. The panelists will discuss the subject of Murrow’s current art installation\, which depicts a massive felled oak tree and serves as a cautionary reference to the effects of colonization and development on the Cape’s natural environment. The discussion will include the history and current state of Cape Cod’s forests and how human beings can preserve and restore natural habitats and coexist in balance with nature. SUMMARY:Art Collecting: Learn from the Experts
DESCRIPTION:The Cahoon Museum’s Art Auction offers a unique opportunity for individual art collectors and businesses at all stages of their collecting journeys to support regional artists and build distinctive collections. Curator and art advisor Mallory Ruymann\, Principal/Head of Curatorial Projects at art_works\, will join art advisor Paul Kotakis\, founder of PÁIDIA Arts\, and artists Andrew Fish and Azita Moradkhani for a discussion about contemporary art collecting practices. Mallory Ruymann will discuss the relationships that inform the art ecosystem along with collecting strategies that individuals and institutions can employ to engage the most compelling artists of our time. Paul Kotakis will offer insight into the art market and how to tap into local resources to build relationships directly with artists. Guest artists will speak to the impact of being included in an art collection. The program will include a question and answer session to be moderated by Education and Programs Manager Michael MacMahon. She is Principal and Head of Curatorial Projects at art_works and also functions as a strategic arts business and collections consultant to artists\, studios\, institutions\, and individuals. She received an MA from Tufts University and has worked at institutions across the United States\, including Tufts University Art Galleries\, Massachusetts College of Art and Design\, Institute of Contemporary Art Boston\, The Fabric Workshop and Museum\, Acadia Summer Arts Program\, and The Chinati Foundation/La Fundación Chinati.
