David Schmid

March 18 – April 17, 2021

This exhibition of visionary Cotuit artist David Schmid (1952-2020) includes paintings, sculptures, and 3-D collages by a local artist who rarely exhibited his work. Schmid had an intense drive to create art and he used commonplace materials and discarded household objects he had on hand – scraps of wood, vines, a basketball, old chairs, plastic dinosaurs, shirts, and puzzle pieces. He arranged them in surprising combinations, then applied his carpentry skills, spray paint, and glue to create one-of-a-kind, sometimes funky, sculptural art.  His intuitive compositions transform everyday objects, and his art is packed with soulful energy and raw authentic expression.
