Contemporary Brooklyn artist, Valerie Hegarty presents an illustrated talk on her body of work of altered art history paintings and sculptures followed by a tour of her pieces on view in the Secrets of the Sea exhibition and a wine and cheese reception.
Hegarty received a BA from Middlebury College, a BFA from the Academy of Art College, an MA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She has had several solo exhibitions in galleries and museums and has participated in numerous group exhibitions including Nature’s Nation: American Art and The Environment currently on view at Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art. Hegarty’s engagement with American history was featured in Alternative Histories at the Brooklyn Museum in 2013, where she created site-specific interventions in the museum’s period rooms.
Her work is in the permanent collections of the Brooklyn Museum, the New Britain Museum of American Art, the Wadsworth Atheneum, and the Cahoon Museum of American Art. She is represented by Burning in Water, an art gallery in Chelsea, New York.
