TWENTY-ONE IN TRURO: Celebrating the Cahoon Museum Collection
Spring Art Exhibitions Opening Reception, April 12, 4:30-6:00pm
March 15 – May 19, 2019
Marking the 21st anniversary of the Cape Cod artists group, Twenty-One in Truro, the Cahoon Museum of American Art collaborated with these talented local artists on the special exhibition, Twenty-One in Truro: Celebrating the Cahoon Museum Collection.
Contemporary artists often draw inspiration from museums and their diverse collections. In recognition of the twenty-first anniversary of the artists group Twenty-One in Truro, the Cahoon Museum of American Art invited the Twenty-One in Truro members to each create a work of art in response to a selection of paintings from the Cahoon Museum’s art collection. The featured Cahoon collection works include contemporary Cape Cod artist, Robert Cardinal’s Three Boats, early American painter Erastus Salisbury Field’s Portrait of a Woman, and early twentieth century artists Daisy Marguerite Hughes’ Provincetown Dunes and Margaret Jordan Patterson’s Salt Creek, Cape Cod.
The newly created response artworks showcase the skill and innovative approaches of the Twenty-One in Truro artists. Their individual connections to the museum’s collection pieces generate new interpretations and build a lively conversation between contemporary and historic work.
Exhibiting artists include: Heather Blume, LaVerne Christopher, Michele Dangelo, Jane Eccles, Maryalice Eizenberg, Sarah Fielding-Ricci, Susan A. Hollis, Martine Jore, Jane Lincoln, Jerre Moriarty, Rosalie Nadeau, Kate Nelson, Carol Odell, Julie Siler Olander, Suzanne M. Packer, Jo Ann Ritter, M’Lou Sorrin, Lorraine W.
